The family of Marcus Jacob Blom (1849-1924)

Marcus Jacob Blom, born in Alkemade on 6 January 1849, a son of Emamuel Blom and Fijtje Polak, was married three times. His first wife, Rozette de Vries was a daughter of Joseph de Vries and Hanna Marcus de Vries, who he had married in Leiden on 5 July 1871.

Marcus Jacob and Rozette had eigth children together, namely Sophia, Josua, Emanuel, Godschalk, Machiel, Maurits, Jacob en Abraham. Machiel. Abraham en Maurits have died as babies; Emanuel, Jacob and Godschalk have survived the Holocaust; Sophia passed away in 1942 in Amsterdam but Josua was killed in the Shoah. Rozette Blom-de Vries passed in Leiden on 27 January 1884.

Six months later, Marcus Jacob Blom married again on 6 August 1884 in Leiden to Mijntje Hartog Bonnewits, a daughter of Hartog Nathan Bonnewits and Sara Elias Delden. Maurths Jacob and Mijntje had again four children, namely Sara, Hartog, Rebecca and Ester. Hartog died in 1891 nearly five years old and Sara died at age 16 in 1901. Rebecca survived the Holocaust but Ester was killed in the Shoah. Marcus’ 2nd spouse Mijntje Bonnewits passed away in May 1906 and she was interred 8 May 1906 in the Jewish Cemetery of Katwijk .

Marcus Jacob Blom married the 3rd time to Hanna Arends from Leeuwarden, the widow of Levie Gazan and a daughter of Aron Calmer Arends and Sippora Isac Drilsma. Hanna Arends passed away in June 1916 and was interred on 9 June 1916 in the Jewish Cemetery of Muiderberg. Marcus Jacob Blom passed on 5 July 1924 in Rotterdam and was interred in the Jewisch Cemetery Toepad.
