About Salomon Brandon and his wife Evalida Betsy de Heer

Salomon Brandon, son of Isaac Brandon and Annetje de Leeuwe, married 30 April 1943 in Camp Westerbork the 6-year younger Evalida Betsy de Heer from Rotterdam, daughter of Isidore Nathan Philip de Heer and Rozetta Polak.

Salomon lived with his parents at home at Ruyschstraat 113 2nd floor in Amsterdam from where he probably in July 1942 was deported to Camp Westerbork. Notes on his registration card of the Jewish Council show that he “still was present in Westerbork in November 1942”.  In Westerbork, Salomon “was employed at the hospital” (angestellt im Krankenhaus). He was still unmarried.   At the same time his unmarried brother Emanuel was interned in Westerbork and according notes on his registration card of the Jewish Council, he too became “employed at the hospital”.

Just as Salomon, also Emanual was put on transport 25 February 1944 from Westerbork to Theresienstadt but 1 October 1944 both were sent from Theresienstadt to Auschwitz. According his certificate of death, Salomon was killed in Auschwitz 30 November 1944, However, a note on his Jewish Council card indicates that “a witness has declared that Salomon Brandon lost his lifed in November 1944 at Gleiwitz”. Emanuel survived the horrors and eventually returned to Amsterdam 7 June 1945.

After his marriage to Evalida de Heer 30 April 1943, Salomon and Evalida still stayed in Westerbork for quite some time. About Evalida's internment and deportation to “the East” is further nothing known. She lost her life eventually 29 February 1945 “somewhere in Mid Europe”.
