Isaak de Groot was deported 15 January 1944 with Convoy XXIII (23) from Mechelen to Auschwitz which arrived there two days later, 17 January 1944. His wife and daughters were already put on transport 26 September 1942 to Auschwitz with Convoy XI (11) and upon arrival there immediately killed. But it is not known what happened to Isaak de Groot or where he stayed between September 1942 and January 1944.

The Memorial of the Deportation of the Belgian Jews write among others the following details about the 23rd Convoy, with which Isaak de Groot eventually was deported from Mechelen to Auschwitz: The 23rd is a Jewish transport. It includes 662 persons among them 62 children. The list of persons who had to be deported commenced since 22 September 1943. Till 10 January 1944 the average number of registrations in Mechelen has decreased till 6 per day. The 23rd convoy arrived 17 January 1944 and is subjected to the immediate eradication in the same proportion as other Jewish convoys: 420 persons were killed immediately upon arrival. 237 persons (5 were escaped at the beginning of the deportation) were registered in the actual concentration camp of whom 97 survive liberation.

His date of death has been established as 15 January 1944, which is in fact the date of depart of the 23rd convoy. A more precise date of death for Isaak de Groot is unknown. It is certain that he must have arrived in Auschwitz 17 January 1944, aged 42 years. Whether Isaak was killed upon arrival, or that he was registered in the camp is not known.
