Simon Polak, a son of Jacob Polak and Roosje Halberstadt, married 26 March 1941 in Amsterdam Mietje Luks, the youngest daughter of Machiel Luks and Klara Schellevis. After their wedding, they together moved into the house at Weesperstraat 53 3rd stock in Amsterdam. Before the wedding, Mietje lived with her parents at house nr. 57 2nd floor and Simon lived before his marriage with his parents at home at Lepelstraat 2c 2nd floor in the old city centre of Amsterdam.
At the time of the large-scale raids in the night of 2-3 October 1942 in Amsterdam, Simon Polak was caught and arrested and deported to Westerbork and from there put on transport to Auschwitz 9 October 1942. Based on his date of death which has been established as 31 January 1943, it may be assumed with certainty that on arrival 12 October 1942 in Auschwitz, Simon Polak was selected to perform forced labor untill he was killed by exhaustion and hardship in January 1943.
Also Mietje Luks was deported to Westerbork that 3 October 1942 and put on transport to Auschwitz 9 October. However, on arrival there 12 October 1942 Mietje Polak-Luks has been immediately killed.
