Biography

The fate of the Mozes Samuel family from Enschede.

Mozes Samuel, a cattle trader from Voorst and son of Mozes Samuel and Leentje Noach, married 10 September 1919 in Oldenzaal Stella Lievendag, a daughter of Jacob Lievendag and Bertha Elkus. The couple had four children, namely Bertha Lena, Louise, Mozes Jacob and Jacob Mozes. All have been killed in the Shoah.

Afther their wedding, the couple Samuel-Lievendag resided at Deventer, where three of their four children were born, but their last known address was Richard Holtstraat 2 in Enschede, where also their youngest daughter Louise was born.

Both sons, Mozes Jacob and Jacob Mozes were arrested in France during their attempt to reach England via Switzerland. They were locked in at the French camp Beaune de la Rolande and from there deported to Auschwitz 28 June 1942. On arrival there, 1 July 1942, they were immediately killed.

Mozes Samuel, his wife Stella Lievendag and both their daughters Bertha Lena and Louise were registered in Westerbork 11 May 1943 and had to stay in barack 61. One week later, 18 May they were deported to Sobibor and on arrival there 21 May 1943, they were immediately killed.
