About Philip Nathan Norden and his family.

Philip Nathan Norden from Groningen was a son of Nathan Norden and Clothilde Esperance Josephine Feronica Jacobs. He married 18 March 1902 Rozette Hart from Tjamsweer (municipality of Appingedam), a daughter of Izaak Hart and Hendelina Norden. Philip lived already in Amsterdam since 1896 and after his marriage, his wife Rozette went with him to Amsterdam, where their three daughters were born: Veronica in 1903, Lina in 1906 and Alida in 1910.

However, Rozetta Hart was taken in in 1922 in the Jewish Psychiatric Hospital “Het Apeldoornsche Bosch” where she passed away 16 Sepember 1923. She has been interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen.

One year later, on 12 November 1924 Philip Nathan Norden remarried in Amsterdam Julchen Kulp, born in Ramsthal (Germany), a daughter of Heinermann Kulp and Johanna Strauss, with whom he had a son in 1926, named Nico. Julchen Kulp however died during giving birth to her son Nico on 30 August 1926 and she too was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen.

Afterwards, Lina as well Nico were placed in Het Apeldoornsche Bosch, from where they were deported with inhabitants, patients and staff to Auschwitz on 23 January 1943, when the Germans came emptying the institution. On arrival in Auschwitz on 25 January 1943 they were immediately killed.

Veronica and Alida have survived the Holocaust. Their father Philip Norden has moved in August 1939 to Niersstraat 40 down floor in Amsterdam and from there taken in September 1942 to Westerbork. There he was put on transport 14 September with another 901 deportees and on arrival in Auschwitz on17 September, immediately killed.
