Their mother Bertha van Leeuwen passed away 16 July 1938 and was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen. Afterwards, the De Metz family moved in 1939 from Oosterparkstraat 102 to Kinderdijkstraat 76 3rd floor, where in November that year, also Antonia Kramer came living in as servant maid .
Marianne Clasina was unmarried and she worked as needlewoman, seamstress and as cashier. Her sister Henriette Elise was also unmarried and she worked as seamstress and sales lady. Together with their father Abraham de Metz they were both taken in the night of 6 July 1943 and deported to concentration camp Vught, where they stayed till 15 November. That day, 15 November 1943 Marianne and Henriette were put on a direct transport from Vught to Auschwitz, which arrived in Birkenau on 18 November 1943. On arrival no selection took place; all deportees were registered and were brought into the camp.
It has been appeared from statements that they, together with the others of the transport, men, women and children had to go into “quarantine” for six weeks. During that period already many women died there as a result of typhoid, dysentery or otherwhise. In January 1944, various selections were held for different “Arbeitskommando’s” (work forces), however, only five women have survived those selections. Official dates of death however could not be established. Therefore the date of death for Marianne Clasina and Henriette de Metz have been established too as 31 january 1944 in Auschwitz.
