Biography

About Philip Jacob van Creveld and his wife Roosje David.

Philip Jacob van Creveld, butcher in Rotterdam, was a son of Jacob van Creveld and Sophia Foks. He married 2 November in Rotterdam Roosje David, a daughter of Wolf David and Antonetta Andriessen. The couple had four children, namely Wolf, Joseph Jacob, Sophia and Levie. Alle werd killed in the Shoah.

Philip Jacob was born into a family with five children, of whom only he self and his brother Joseph were victims of the nazi persecution; his brother Levij died already at the age of 37 in 1921 in Rotterdam and also his sister Rosetta already in 1900, 18 year old. Only his sister Sara survived the war and passed away in Den Haag in 1964. Also his wife Roosje David had four more sisters, namely Hendrika, Mietje, Elizabeth and Kaatje, who all were killed with their families during the Shoah.

After their wedding in November 1910 Philip Jacob and Roosje moved into a house in the Hugo de Grootstraat 53b in Rotterdam. Then there have been followed six more removals in the city, among others to the Goudsche Wagenstraat, the Sophiakade, the Oostplein and the Oostzeedijk, after which they came living per 17 June 1938 at Hofdijk 33b. Their last known address in Rotterdam however became the Lusthofstraat 96a.

Philip Jacob and his wife Roosje Davie were taken and deported to Westerbork 12 August 1942 and put on transport to Auschwitz Friday 14 August. On arrival there both were immediately killed on 16 August 1942.
