Jacob Beetz was the only son of Michel Beetz and Sara Witmond. He was born in 1913 in Amsterdam, but moved with his parents in 1916 to Rotterdam. Jacob Beetz was a dealer of flowers by trade. He married 19 October 1939 in Rotterdam Sophia van Creveld, a daughter of Philip Jacob van Creveld and Roosje David.
Since 1916 Jacob lived at Van Oldebarenveldstraat 119 in Rotterdam but moved with his parents in 1929 to Tollenstraat 83a. After his marriage in 1939, his bride Sophia van Creveld, born in Rotterdam, came living in with the Beetz family at Tollenstraat, where already earlier Jacob’s uncle Michel Witmond had come living in.
After Jacob Beetz and Sophia van Creveld had been summoned to report 30 July 1942 at Loods 24 for the provision of additional work in Germany, they were registered, medical examined and put on transport to Auschwitz 3 August 1942. Under bad circumstances there they were put to work with the result that Jacob Beetz lost his life in Auschwitz, due to pneumonia on 25 September 1942. Thus to a report of the Standesamt Auschwitz to the Jewish Council in Holland.
Also Jacob’s wife Sophia van Creveld has lost her life in Auschwitz but it is not known when and where exactly she has passed. Therefore, her official date of death and place of death has been established as 30 September 1942 in Auschwitz.
