David Wolf, the father of the Wolf family, was a police officer. He was born 3 January 1843 in Hof van Delft as son of the butcher Levie Wolf and Sara Groen. David Wolf passed away in Den Haag 10 May 1925.

The first marriage of David Wolf

On 1 September 1869 he married Sara Sons in Den Haag, a daughter of Mozes Abraham Sons and Rebecca Abraham van Winter. She was born 12 September 1836 in Amsterdam, but passed away in Den Haag on 26 July 1879 at the age of 41 years.

David and Sara had three children together, namely Levy, Joseph and Rosa. Rosa died 11 May 1879 in Den Haag, only four days old. Levy Wolf, son from the 1st marriage of David Wolf, was born 16 June 1870 in Den Haag. He married 27 May 1896 the 17-year old Grietje Bron, a daughter of Barend Abraham Bron and Belia de Leeuw. She passed away in Den Haag on 19 January 1942. Levy and Grietje had seven children, namely Barend in 1898, Abraham in 1899, Joseph in 1901, Sara in 1902 en Andries in 1904. Belia in 1916 and David in 1918. Levy Wolf, weigher in the public slaughterhouse, passed away in Den Haag on 11 June 1935.

Joseph Wolf , the 3rd son of Levy Wolf and Grietje Bron, was killed in Auschwitz 28 February 1943; his wife Elisabeth Speijer and son Levy there too on 22 October 1942. They lived Wagenstraat 190 in Den Haag.

Andries Wolf, the youngest of Levy and Grietje, born 23 August 1904 was unmarried and animal trainer by profession. He was killed in Auschwitz 28 February 1943 too. His brother David Wolf, born 11 June 1918, a wireless operator, lived together with Andries at Wagenstraat 144 in Den Haag. He vanished in the Shoah. His place and date of death are unknown.

 

The second marriage of David Wolf. 

David Wolf, meantime 36 years of age, police officer and later promoted to sergeant, remarried 19 November 1879 in Den Haag Elisabeth de Vries, 28-years of age, a daughter of Alexander Jacob de Vries and Jozina (Cina) Simons. She was born 20 November 1850 in Bergen op Zoom. Elisabeth de Vries was deported to Sobibor 11 May 1943 and killed there on arrival on 14 May 1943.

As far as known, seven children were born from the second marriage of David and Elisabeth, of whom in January 1891 a stillborn son. The other family members were Josephine Wolf (1881), married to Charles Barbier; Alexander Isaac Wolf (1882), married to Sara Alter. Alexander Isaac died in 1939. Sara Alter was killed in Auschwitz 24 September 1942. Israël Wolf (1886), Benjamin Wolf (1888), Samuel Sander Wolf (1890) and Abraham Wolf (1892) who was married to Kaatje van Leeuwen.

Israël, Benjamin and Samuel Sander Wolf were killed in during the Shoah. Israël Wolf land his wife Sophia lived in Pletterijstraat 164 in Den Haag and owned a full-service laundry. Sophia survived the war. Israël Wolf was carried off to Westerbork between 3-5 October 1942 and deported to Auschwitz 19 October, where he was killed on 22 October 1942.

Benjamin Wolf, married to Elizabeth Hofstede, had two children, Izak and David. David was brought in Westerbork 19 August 1942 and deported to Auschwitz 21 August. Eventually he was killed there 30 September 1942. Benjamin Wolf, Elizabeth Hofstede and son Izak were deported 16 October 1942 to Auschwitz. Benjamin lost his life eventually in the Reichs Autobahnlager Annaberg on 29 November 1942. Elizabeth was killed 19 October 1942 in Auschwitz and Izak eventually lost his life somewhere in Mid Europe on 31 March 1944.

Samuel Sander Wolf and his wife Hendrika Achttienribben and their three children David, Elisabeth and Josephine lived at Gouverneurslaan 592 in Den Haag. Carolina de Wind, daughter of Hendrika Achttienribben and Alexander de Wind, who died in 1918, lived in there too. Samuel Sander, his wife and children were carried off to Westerbork between 3-5 October 1942, deported to Auschwitz 16 October and on arrival there killed on 19 October 1942. Son David married in Camp Westerbork Rika Snijders and Carolina married in that camp Jacob Fresco. All were deported to Auschwitz on 28 August 1942. Carolina and Rika Snijders were killed there together on 31 August 1942. Carolina’s husband Jacob Fresco died 26 September 1944 and David Wolf on 30 April 1943, both somewhere in Mid Europe.
