Biography

About the death of Jacob Slomovits.

According the registration card of the Jewish Council, Jacob Slomovits should have been deported from Westerbork to “the East” on 18 September 1942. This transport included 1004 persons, of whom 200 were forced to leave the train in Kozel. Boys and men between 15 and 50 years of age were employed as forced laborers in the surrounding satellite camps of Auschwitz. Jacob Slomovits then was 50 years of age. It is possible that he belonged to the group of 200 prisoners, but at the same time, he might have belonged to the remaining group of more than 800 deportees who were transported onwards to Auschwitz, which arrived there 20 September 1942.

Because no official death documents are available and it seems that after the war no death certificate has been drawn up by the Dutch Ministry of Justice for Jacob Slomovits, the date and place of death are unknown.

However strange is that on the registration card of Jacob Slomovits a note was made which read: “Repatriation to Romania according list Expo 24 Aug 1943”. If this is correct, Jacob Slomovits never could have been deported 18 September 1942 , but perhaps survived the war in Romania, or has died in Romania or still has been deported to a concentration camp and there whether or not has died.

Therefore it is clear that based on the information yet available, it is unkown whether or not of when and where Jacob Slomovits has died.
