Louis Philip Jacoby, born 10 December 1886 in Breda, was a son of Philip Levy Jacoby and Sophia Cohen. Louis’ father, who was born in 1854 in Nijmegen, passed away in Breda in 1915. His mother, the widow Sophia Jacoby-Cohen, lived for some time still in Breda at Nieuwe Haagdijk 42a, but lived in with her son in Antwerp since 1928. Louis Philip has left Breda already for Antwerp in 1909 and lived there at first at Gasstraat 119 and later at Lange van Bloersstraat 42. As far as known she passed away in Antwerp in November 1931.
Louis Philip Jacoby married 21 June 1910 in Antwerp with Sara Louisa Koperberg, who was born in Rotterdam on 8 May 1884 as daughter of the dealer Louis Koperberg and Betje Braun. He provided for their livelihood as market vendor, buyer and trader and earned an average of 400 Bfrs per week. His wife Sophia was also a market staller and a shopkeeper of pickled fish.
The couple had three children, all born in Antwerp, namely on 24 Febuary 1911 Philip Lodewijk (Louis); on 20 June 1914 Louis Philip and on 7 July 1919 Elisabeth Sophia Louise. As far as known, the children have survived the Holocaust. Louis Philip and his wife Sophia however were deported 26 September 1942 from Mechelen to Auschwitz with convoy XI (11). This convoy includes 1742 deportees, men, women and 523 children. On arrival 28 September 1942 in Auschwitz, 1398 deportees were immediately killed in the gas chambers. Among them, in all probability also Louis Philip Jacoby and his wife Sara Louisa Koperberg.
On July 19, 1955, the City Council of Antwerp issued an Administrative Information for the Foreigners Office containing an extract of the death record 1955-B527 for Louis Philip Jacoby and Sara Louisa Koperberg, in which the Court of First Instance on 3 March 1955 has determined the date of death for both as on 26 September 1942 at midnight in an unknown place.
