Biography

About Jakob Zacharias Zonligt and his family.

 

Jakob Zacharias Zonligt, born 24 July 1915 in Kray, a district in the German town Essen, was the second child of Hartog Zonligt and Elisabeth Cohen. He married 9 November 1938 in AmsterdamTheresia Hintermayer, who was born 27 October 1917 in Linz in Austria. Their daughter Louise was born in Amsterdam on 1 October 1939.

After their wedding, the Zonligt couple lived at Retiefstraat 42 III in Amsterdam but moved later to Plantage Middenlaan 88. Details from the City Archive of Amsterdam showed that the couple would have been divorced, but not know is when. From Theresia Hintermayer is futher known that se left Amsterdam for Perth in Australia on 8 August 1950.

Jakob Zacharias Zonligt, manufacturer of leather goods, was brought in Westerbork on 26 May 1943 and stayed in barrack 57. Also his daughter Louise arrived that day with her father in the camp and stayed also in barrack 57.  However, from the file cabinet of the Jewish Council it appeared that “Ms Zonligt had presented documents concerning her mixed marriage plus a  so-called “negative-statement” for Louise” on 18 June 1943, as a result of which they were both discharged from Westerbork on 13 July 1943 and eventually survived the war. On 19 April 1950 they both left for Freemantle in Australia.
