The eldest son of Andries van Embden and Sara Mok, named Barend, was an upholsterer by profession. He left Amsterdam for Rotterdam on 21 September 1934, to be married there on 16 January 1935 with the non-Jewish Henrika Gijsbertha Posthuma. They had two children: Antje Hendrika Gijsbertha and Sara Jeannette. After almost three years, on 12 April 1937 the family moved to the Wesselstraat 120 in Den Haag and a few months later to Vliegerstraat 54.
Barend van Embden was mixed marred. His non-Jewish wife and children were not persecuted the Nazis and survived the war. According notes on his registration card from the Jewish Council, he was deported 18 May 1943 “via Amersfoort to Auschwitz”, where Barend van Embden has been killed immediately on arrival there on 21 May 1943.
