Biography

About Nathan Mullem, his wife Lena Wijnschenk and their daughter Sara.

Nathan Mullem was the youngest of the three children of Hartog Mullem from Amsterdam and Sara Snoek from Den Helder. He was an electrician by trade. On 3 July 1935 he married in Amsterdam Lena Wijnschenk, a daughter of Salomon Wijnschenk and Sara Visjager. The couple had one daughter, Sara, who was born 30 November 1935.

The Mullem family lived in De la Reijstraat 19 3rd floor in Amsterdam. They were carried off 19 July 1942 to Westerbork and deported to Auschwitz 29 July. On arrival there, Nathan was selected to perform “work”. However,it is not known what date exactly Nathan lost his life in Auschwitz. It was therefore that the Ministry of Justice after the war ordered the municipality of Amsterdam to made out a certificate of death for Nathan Mullem, which stated his date and place of death as on 30 September 1942 in Auschwitz.

Nathan’s wife Lena Wijnschenk and their 6-year old daughter Sara were immediately killed  the same day in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau on arrival on 29 July 1942.
