At the age of 24, Hanna Rachel Frank married Jacob de Vries from Enschede on 12 January 1938 in Amsterdam. He was born 4 September 1909 as son of Simon Philip de Vries and Bertha Menko. On 3 August 1938 their son Robert was born.
Hanna Rachel returned with her parents from Bergen (NH) in Amsterdam at the end of September 1932 and they then lived at Weesperstraat 21. After having moved with her parents to Transvaalstraat 56 in 1933 and to Hoogeweg 12 in 1934, she left on 12 February 1938 with her husband Jacob de Vries to Christiaan de Wetstraat 55 and on 22 April 1939 Jacob and Hanna’s family was registered at the address Plantage Franschelaan 11a.
Jacob had an M.T.S. training and already five years of experience in nursing. From the moment he and his family lived at Plantage Franschelaan, from 1 August 1939 his position was “proprietor of Rest Home de Vries” and “general manager”. Therefore he was “exempted from deportation because of function until further notice ” as well his wife Hanna Rachel and son Robert too.
On 4 February 1943 the Jacob de Vries family was taken to Westerbork and deported to Auschwitz on 9 February. On arrival there on 12 February, Hanna Rachel and her son Robert were killed immediately. Jacob de Vries however was selected for work and due to hard labor he eventually has lost his life on 30 April 1943 in Auschwitz.
