Nathan Barend was the seventh child of Salomon Barend and Lena IJzerkoper. He was born 5 August 1903 and he was employed as warehouse clerk and diamond sawyer. He was unmarried.
Nathan lived at home with his parents. Since April 1928 was his parental home Cilliersstraat 17 in Amsterdam, where his father passed away in January 1936. On 18 February 1937 Nathan moved with his mother to Grensstraat 11 parterre, where also his brother-in-law Levie Scheffer, who was married to Nathan’s youngest sister Rozette, came living in. On 5 May 1938 was there the birth of their daughter Keetje. On 27 March 1940 all moved into a house at Ruyschstraat 63 2nd floor in Amsterdam-East.
Nathan had an exemption (“Sperre”) from the Jewish Council, where he had this job since 22 June 1942 as "Corridor Guard Field Organization Extracurricular Youth Care" at Plantage Parklaan 9. His brother Mozes Barend also worked there as youth leader. However, On 20 June 1943, during the secretly prepared big raid by the Germans, Nathan Barend was arrested and ended up in Westerbork in the penal barrack 67. For which offense he came as a prisoner in this penal barrack is unknown.
On 29 June 1943 Nathan Barend and nearly another 2400 deportees were put on transport to Sobiboer and on arrival there on 2 Julu 1943 immediately killed.
