Biography

About Natan Kan.

Natan Kan, haberdasher and draper by trade in Goor, was a son of the shop keeper Izak Kan and Mariana Levie, both living at Goor. He was born there 13 July 1844 and married 27 May 1885 in Stad-Almelo Julia Meijers, born there on 15 August 1860 and daughter of Samuel Meijers and Hendrina Hedeman.

The couple had three children, namely Izak, on 27 June 1886, Hendrina, on 22 March 1888 and  Mariane, on 11 August 1890, all born in Goor. Both the daughters died already very young in childhood, Hendrina died 15 May 1888 and Mariane on 13 October 1890.

On 22 October 1939 Natan’s wife Julia Meijers passed away in Goor and she was interred in the Jewish Cemetery there. Natan then was 84 years old and decided to move to his son Izak, who lived then already at Scheldestraat 127 1st floor in Amsterdam. On 10 January 1940 Natan moved in with his son Izak and his family; besides Izak’s wife Rachel Kaufmann, his unmarried daughter Johanna Julia Kan lived there too.

On 14 June 1943, Natan Kan, widower of Julia Meijers, passed away in Amsterdam but it is not known where he was interred.
