Lion Beek, also known as Leon Beek, was a son of Philip Jacob Beek and Rosette Rijnveld. He worked as messenger boy and tailor and was born 7 July 1962 in Den Helder. He died ag the age of 78 on 21 March 1941 in Amsterdam. He lived then at the Joodsche Invalide at Weesperplein 1 in Amsterdam and was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen.
Lion Beek married 17 December 1902 in Weesp at the age of 40the 36-year old Eva Spier, daughter of Jesaijes Spier and Naatje Stern. She was born 3 October 1866 in Amsterdam and passed there at the age of 58 on 18 June 1925. She too was interred in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen. Lion and Eva had two children, a twin: Naatje, and Jesaya, both born 11 September 1903 and both were killed during the Shoah.
