Hartog Philip Beek, born 1 August 1866 in Den Helder, was a son of Philip Jacob Beek and Rosette Rijnveld. At the age of 40, he married on 9 January 1907 in Amsterdam the 43-year old Eva Roodveldt, born 14 November 1863 there as daughter of Emanuel Isaac Roodveldt and Sara Salomon Blitz. As far as known, there was no offspring.
Hartog Beek started his working life as tailor but later he provided in his maintenance as oil supplier. With his wife Eva he most certainly lived at fourteen different addresses in the city. Since 13 June 1931 they were registered at the address Afrikanerplein 27 parterre in Amsterdam-East.
Hatog’s wife Eva Roodsveldt however passed away there on 6 Juli 1941 at the age of 77 years and she was interred two days later in the Jewish Cemetery in Diemen. Two months later, Hartog Philip Beek moved as widower to the address Plantage Middenlaan 40 upperhouse in Amsterdam, were “guest house” Pension Blog was located that was run by Rosa Blog-Heilbron, who lived at the same address.
Hartog Philip Beek has been taken 19 January 1943 from Plantage Middenlaan via Hollandse Schouwburg to Westerbork, where he ended up in barrack 66 at first but later in barrack 55. On 29 January he was put on transport to Auschwitz where on arrival there on 1 February 1943, he was immediately murdered.
