Biography

The fate of Mozes Zinger.

Mozes Zinger, born 17 Juni 1906 in the Rapenburgerstraat 132 in Amsterdam, was a so-called "illegitimate child" of Elisabeth Lea Root and Joseph Zinger. Both have recognized and legalized Mozes by birth. His mother had divorced Isaac Montanhes in 1910 after seven years of marriage and, as it turned out later, she got married to Joseph Zinger in December 1916. Before that official date of marriage, Mozes had another sister, Leentje, and after the weddingdate two more siblings followed: Abraham Joseph and Sarah.  Mozes hád already a half-sister from the first wedlock of his mother: Femmie Montanhes.

Mozes Zinger was unmarried and he worked as office clerk. However, on 5 June 1930 Mozes was taken ill as a patient in the Central Israëlitic Psychiatric Hospital “Het Apeldoornsche Bosch”. There he was eventually carried off in the night of 23 January 1943, together with all other patiënts and staff, when the Germans came to "empty" the institution. They were all put on transport to Auschwitz and on arrival there on 25 January 1943, everybody, including Mozes Zinger was immediately murdered.

Also his mother was taken in "Het Apeldoornsche Bosch". The first time on 27 October 1933; three years later she was dismissed there and returned to her family in Amsterdam on  30 July 1936. However, the registration at the Jewish Council show that Elisabeth Lea Zinger-Root has been taken in again on 15 July 1942 in "Het Apeldoornsche Bos". That particular day, the 23rd of January, she too was carried off with patiënts and staff and deported to Auschwitz, where on arrival on 25 January 1943 she too was immediately murdered.
