About the 9th convoy of 12 September 1942.

From Mechelen naar Auschwitz.

This transport consists of 1000 people, including 228 children. Its list is started after the Brussels round-up during the night of 3 to 4 September and consists entirely of arrested persons. The calling system is definitely outdated. The average number of registrations at Mechelen has reached the lowest level between 5 and 10 September: only 26 people per day.

This convoy can still be completed on September 11, thanks to the Jewish raid in northern France that same day. The French departments fall under the competence of the military occupying government of Belgium. The military police, who are carrying out the raid, handed over 516 Jews to the Mechelen assembly camp.

The 9th convoy arrived in Auschwitz on 14 September, after a selection in Kozel, where 288 men were selected for forced labor. In Auschwitz, another 210 prisoners, including 165 women, are approved for labor. Consequently, the eradication number of the 9th convoy is rather on the low side compared to the previous convoys. At least 502 deportees are killed immediately upon arrival. Despite the high number of deportees who are actually employed, only 29 people will survive the war.
