Biography

About Clara Cohen.

Clara Cohen was the eldest daughter of Izaak Cohen and Elizabeth van Lier. She was born on 26 November 1867 in Rotterdam and came from a large family with a total of twelve children, of which seven brothers and sisters have died before the war; one brother survived the Holocaust but Clara self and her brothers Salomon, Levie and Charles have died during the war period 1940-1945.

Clara Cohen was unmarried. She lived at home with her parents at Veemarkt in Rotterdam, where her father runned a butchery and also traded in live stock. On 12 February 1923 Clara left Rotterdam for Utrecht where she stayed only a few months. On 19 April she returned in Rotterdam. On 3 November 1926 she moved to Etten Leur (province of Noord Brabant) where she was admitted in the Sint Antonius Asylum, an psychatrice institution for elderly care (till ± 1910), psychiatry, care for mentally retarded and for epileptics. There she died on 12 December 1941 at the age of 74.
