Jewish children were brought to the childcare centre from the theatre. The childcare centre director Henriëtte Pimental and the theatre manager Walter Süskind had contacts in the resistance. Children were smuggled out of the childcare centre in various ways and placed with foster families all over the Netherlands. Estimates of the number of children rescued range from 400 to 1,100.
