Mozes Barend Slagter, the eldest son of Barend Mozes Slagter and Henriette Polak, was born on 22 July 1917 in Rotterdam. After graduating from gymnasium B, he worked as a travelling salesman, office clerk and stencil printer, possibly in his father’s advertising agency and he was also a cantor. Per 26 July 1942, together with his sister Rosetta, he came in possession of an Jewish Council I.D. no. 70, but he was not officially “gesperrt”, meaning not exempted from deportation for the time being but he was regarded as an “official cantor” by the Jewish Council.
On 10 April 1943, Mozes Barend was taken from home, together with his parents and carried off to Westerbork, where they ended up in barrack 57. His parents have been deported ten days later but Mozes Barend was only put on transport to Sobibor on 13 July. On arrival there on 16 July 1943 he was immediately killed in the gas chambers.
