Esther Sanders, born 21 October 1921 in Rotterdam, was a daughter of Benedictus Sanders and Sara Boeki. She married in Rotterdam Louis Bremer on 27 May 1940, a son of Joseph Bremer and Eva Koekoek. She was born there on 30 October 1919. Esther and Louis had two children, namely Joseph on 28 July 1940, born in Rotterdam and Benedictus, born on 27 July 1943 in camp Westerbork.
Between 3 and 5 October 1942 Esther and her children were taken and carried off from Rotterdam – where she lived at Nieuwe Binnenweg 196b – toWesterbork. She stayed in barrack 63 and also in barrack 58. On 7 September 1943, they were put on transport to Auschwitz, together with her husband and father Louis Bremer, where Esther and both her children on arrival there on 10 September 1943, immediately were killed in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau. A note on her Jewish Council registration card, made in 1947, shows that according to “A.S. Engelsman, she was gassed at Birkenau on 9 Septembe 1943 – see report 228 GV 171 14.4.47”.
Her husband, Louis Bremer has been transported one month later from Auschwitz to Warsaw for clearing the ruins of the gettho, where after he survived a death march of 120 km to Kutno, as well the voyage per cattle wagon to Dachau, were he arrived on 1 August 1944. Louis Bremer has been transferred to one of the eleven sub-cams of Dachau, Kaufering, where he eventually lost his life on 17 February 1945.
