Levie Stodel was a son of Joseph Stodel and Elisabeth (Betje) Metz. He was born on 12 April 1877 in Amsterdam and he was a potato vendor by trade, just as his father. He married in Amsterdam on 24 February 1904 Lea Bleekrode, who was born there on 19 January 1873 as a daughter of Samuel Bleekrode and Mietje Trijtel. The couple had two children, namely Joseph, born 8 February 1905 and Mietje on 25 November 1906. Joseph passed away however on 4 June 1929, 24 years of age and still unmarried. He was interred in the Jewish Cemetery at Muiderberg.
When Levie Stodel and Lea Bleekrode were married in February 1924, they then started to live at the 1st floor at Weesperstraat 121 and in the years subsequent at two other addresses in the city, till they came living on 22 May 1936 at Zuider Amstellaan 136 ground floor. On 5 June 1939 they moved in with their daughter Mietje, who was a hairdresser, and who was already married on 10 April 1935 in Amsterdam to Marcus Bleekveld and lived at Molenbeekstraat 2 ground floor.
Marcus was a son of Mozes Bleekveld and Heintje Cohen and he was born on 8 March 1901 in Amsterdam, but between 30 April 1915 and 12 April 1925 he stayed in the State Institutions “De Kruisberg” in Doetinchem and in “Veldzicht” at Balkbrug/Avereest. Back in Amsterdam he went back to work in his old profession as a tailor and as a presser.
When Levie and Lea moved again on 3 June 1940 to Dongestraat 13 ground floor, Mietje and Marcus remained living in their house at Molenbeekstraat. Marcus Bleekveld and his wife Mietje Stodel were carried off to concentration camp Vught in the night of 6 to 7 May 1943, from where they were transferred on 3 July to Westerbork. Mietje ended up in barrack 65 and Marcus in barrack 70. On 6 July both were deported to Sobibor and upon arrival there on 9 July 1943, immediately murdered in the gas chambers.
It appeared that Levie Stodel and Lea Bleekrode already had been carried off to Westerbork one month earlier, which happened in night of 1 to 2 April 1943. They were both put on transport from Westerbork to Sobibor on 6 April and upon arrival there on 9 April 1943, they were immediately murdered in the gas chambers there.
