Elizabeth Meijers was a daughter of Izaak Meijers and Johanna de Winter. She was born in Doesburg on 24 February 1894. She married in Doetinchem on 22 May 1928 Joseph Weijel, a son of Joseph Weijel and Carolina Zilversmit and was born on 19 December 1887 in Zutphen. The couple had three children, namely Joseph in 1930, Izaak Meijer in 1932 and Carolina Johanna in 1936.
In the family of Izaak Meijers and Johanna de Winter were born 8 children in total. Two of them died in childhood, three children survived the Holocaust and three children, among them Elizabethh, were killed in the Shoah with their families.
In the family of Joseph Weijel and Carolina Zilversmit, were born 13 children in total, of whom two stillborn, one son died after a few months and one sister died before the war at the age of 34. Also a brother died already at the age of 19. The other children, among them Joseph, were killed in the Shoah with their families.
Joseph Weijel lived in Zutphen; his parental home was in a street named Barlheze at nr. 129, later at nr. 44. He was a cattle trader and a butcher. The last known address were Joseph with his wife and three children lived was Jan Steenstraat 14. From there, they ended up all in Westerbork between 3 and 5 October 1942, waiting for their deportation.
On 19 October 1942, the entire Weijel family was put on transport to Auschwitz; the deportation train contained in total 1327 deportees. Upon arrival in Auschwitz on 22 October 1942, Joseph Weijel, his wife Elizabeth Weijel-Meijers and their children Joseph, Izaak Meijer and Carolina Johanna were immediately killed in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
