Sibilla van Geldere was the youngest of the three children from the second marriage of Hartog van Geldere to Josephine Mendel. Sibilla was born on 15 October 1906 in Den Haag, she worked as a maid and she was unmarried.
Sibilla’s father Hartog, who got married on 15 July 1907 in Hannover for the 2nd time to Josephine Mendel, passed away in Den Haag on 2 June 1923. On 19 February 1925, Sibilla left Den Haag for family in Rotterdam, to return Den Haag on 1 April 1926. In the meantime, her mother, brother Salomon and sister Sophia Sabine were moved in March of that year to Gedempte Burgwal 40 and Sibilla then joined them there.
On 8 April 1935 the Van Geldere family moved to Gentschestraat 70, from where Sibilla’s sister Sophia Sabine and her husband Israel Feiwel Schnur emigrated to Tel Aviv in Palestine on 3 May 1935. They were married on 16 January 1935 and they have not gone throuhg the Holocaust. The other members of the Van Geldere family then moved into a house in the Arnhemschestraat 78 in Schevenigen on 5 January 1939.
Most likely, Sibilla van Geldere was called-up for the so-called “Arbeitseinsatz”- the provision of additional work in Germany – and she was put on transport from Westerbork to Auschwitz on 21 August 1942 and arrived there ± 24 August 1942. Since her exact date of death was still unknown after the war, the Dutch authorities have established then – based on testiomonies of survivors and other information – that Sibilla after 30 September 1942 no longer could be alive. Then the Municipality of Den Haag was commissioned to draw up a certificate of death for Sibilla van Geldere, in which it was established that she has died in Auschwitz on 30 September 1942.
