Biography

General conclusion on the death of men, who were sent from Auschwitz to Warsaw.

The next general conclusion, which can be drawn in advance, concerns men who were transferred from Auschwitz to the destroyed ghetto in Warsaw in 1943 to carry out rubble-clearing work.

In this regard, reference can mainly be made to what has already been stated about this category on pages 123-125 of the section Auschwitz VI.

It may further be mentioned that these men, who belonged to several Westerbork-Auschwitz transports of 1943 (very few from 1942), but for the most part to the transports of 31 August, 7 September and 19 October 1943, together with many foreigners left Auschwitz in four contingents (on 7 and 8 October and 26 November 1943, and a last group in December 1943), but that all and the first two groups were immediately transported directly to Warsaw. Arrival resp. 9 and 10 October 1943).

(x) see in particular the cases referred to in paragraph 4 of Chapter III

The group of November 26 certainly, the group of December 1943 probably went by a detour, via Posen. On this journey, which lasted several days for the November group, many were shot dead by the German guards, according to the statement of a survivor. The general conclusion, repeated here for convenience, is that all men known or to be presumed to have belonged to one of the groups transferred to Warsaw, unless individually shown otherwise, must be assumed to have died

A: no earlier than the day of departure from Auschwitz (if known; otherwise, of course, to be taken 7 October 1943), but no later than 31 March 1944, insofar as they are after the latter date (on which the arrival in the ghetto in the first months of 1944 prevailing typhus epidemic can be considered to have ended) have not been found in Warsaw or elsewhere;

B: no earlier than April 1, 1944, but no later than July 28, 1944 (date of evacuation of the survivors to Dachau), insofar as they were reported in Warsaw after March 31, 1944, but were not found during the evacuation transport or afterwards;

C: no earlier than 28 July, but no later than 6 August 1944, insofar as it is known that they left with the evacuation transport, but are not registered in Dachau.

For the rest, reference is made to what has been communicated about the Warsaw groups when dealing with the individual transports below.
