Sophia Betje Mossel was a daughter of Meijer Jozua Mossel and Lea Joseph Fedder and was born on 25 October 1862 in Amsterdam. She married there the grocer Abraham Juda Boas, a son of Juda Abraham Boas and Grietje Cohen. He was born in Amsterdam too, on 13 April 1863. On 23 September 1886 their daughter Margaretha was born and on 22 November 1887, Lea was born, who however already died within two months, on 19 January 1888.
In October 1921 the Boas family decided to move to Antwerpen. There on 28 October they were registered at the address Boomgaardstraat 177. The registration of 28 October and also the one of 5 November 1921 were signed by Sophia Mossel, with the remark that her husband could not sign due to ailingness.
Anonther remark going with the registration in Belgium by the Deputy Commissioner, made on 31 October 1921 was: "that they actually live there, that neither of them practice a profession, but according to information obtained they would have enough money to support themselves for some time." However, already on 29 December 1921, Abraham Juda Boas died in Antwerp, after which his widow Sophia Betje Boas-Mossel moved in March 1922 to Bouwhandelstraat 68 in Borgerhout.
Most likely, at some point, Sophia has moved again within the Communtiy of Borgerhout to Dodoensstraat 15. On 7 June 1948 the Municipality communicated in a so-called Notice of Depart, that she as the widow of Abraham Juda Boas, officially has been unsubscribed from the Peoples Registry, due to a depart to an unkonwn address.
Later it appeared, that Sophia Betje Boas has been deported on 24 October 1942 with the 14th convoy (XIVth) from the assembly camp Kazerne Dossin in Mechelen to Auschwitz. Also her daughter Margaretha Boas, already widowed from Jacob van West since 1938 and her cousin by marriage, Esther Koekoek-van West, also already widowed since 1926, were deported to Auschwitz with the 14th convoy and murderd there upon arrival.
According to the Memorial of the Deportation of the Belgian Jews, the 14th convoy arrived in Auschwitz on 26 October 1942 and most likely, also Sophia Betje Boas-Mossel belonged to the group of 895 women, who were murdered in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau immediately upon arrival there
