Jeannette Groenteman was born on 2 August 1938 in Amsterdam as the youngest child of Meijer Machiel Groenteman and Lena Kroonenberg. She had a brother, John, and a sister, Anne, who were respectively three, and one a half years older than she was.
The family lived at Nieuwe Kerkstraat 61 hs and father Meijer earned his living as a tailor. He had a workshop where coats were made. His wife Lena, mother of his children, was a seamstress.
In September 1942 the family was taken from their home and taken to Westerbork. With the transport of September 25, they went on to Auschwitz, where Jeannette and her mother, brother and sister died on 28 September 1942 in the gas chambers of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Her father was found suitable for (forced) labor and was allowed to live for a while. At the end of January 1943 he also died.
Jeannette Groenteman was 4 years old.
