Name of Sarphatikade in Amsterdam during the periond August 1942 to May 1945.
Street names that referred to Jews or living members of the Royal Family were prohibited by ordinance of January 1942 and had to be renamed. On August 14, 1942, during the German occupation, the name of the quay was changed to “Vening Meiniszkade” by order of Mayor Voûte, as part of a number of renamings of streets named after Jewish people. In 1945, immediately after the liberation, the name was changed back to Sarphatikade.
During the war, the Committee for the Handling of Financial Affairs was accomodated at Sarphatikade 10-11. Stars (yellow Stars of David - Jodensterren) were sold there in 1942 on April 30, May 1 and 3.
