Joachim Adolf Jacobsthal is geboren 5 augustus 1921 te Berlijn als zoon van Walter Jacobsthal en Betty Jacobsthal-Littauer. Het gezin Jacobsthal vestigde zich in oktober 1928 aan de Sloestraat 12 II te Amsterdam. J.A. Jacobsthal was coupeur en ontwerper damesconfectie van beroep.
