Re: Berlin Emigrant

Door: Lüdke

Today I went to the so called "Landesarchiv" in Berlin/Germany to do some research on German Jews perished in Minsk. I searched for information about ADELE GAPPE-Hoffnung and found out, that her husband, MAX GAPPE, emigrated to Isreal and lived there until at least 1959, as it is stated in a letter written by him to a public office here in Berlin. His address was Haifa-Kiriat Bialik, Efraimstr. 39, ISRAEL. He had two daughters with his first wife ADELE GAPPE, Ilse Gappe (*26.09.1924 in Breslau, † 31.08.1942 in the Netherlands), and Ruth Gappe (*04.10.1928 in Breslau, deported to Minsk on November 14th 1941, together with her mother Adele). His wife Adele had three sisters: Johanna Herrmann-Hoffnung, widowed Sandhaus (emigrated to the Netherlands and then later on to the United States of America), Charlotte Schwarz-Hoffnung, Rosa Herkus-Hoffnung (emigrated to Israel). Her mother was Dorothea Tischler-Hoffnung. She died in 1934 in the Netherlands. Her father was Samuel Hoffnung, born on July 3rd 1870 in Poland. That's what I found out so far.
