Abraham Falkenburg was married to Rebekka Wijngaard (born 27 June 1878). They left Den Haag on October 9, 1942, went to Belgium, then France, and crossed the demarcation line on October 19, 1942 in the French departement Indre-et-Loire. They got a permit by French police to go to Châteauroux (Indre). But they went directly on in order to cross the Swiss border. They were arrested in Bellegarde (Ain) and sent to camp Rivesaltes, where they arrived on Nov. 1, 1942. They presumably were kept at camp Rivesaltes and later, when Rivesaltes was shut down at the end of November, transferred to camp Gurs. Mrs Rebekka Falkenburg managed to survive, but Abraham Falkenburg was taken in late February 1943 as a hostage in retaliation for the assassination of two German officers in Paris, and sent to Drancy, then, on March 4, 1943, to camp Majdanek (not Sobibor) in transport Nr. 50.
