Benjamin de Groot and his family

Benjamin de Groot was the son of Meijer de Groot and Ida Wijnberg. Benjamin left Eindhoven for Rotterdam on 10 October 1882, and on 27 October 1884 he left for the East Indies Army’s depot in Harderwijk. On 4 February 1891 he returned from the Meester Cornelis regency in Java as sergeant of the East Indies Army. He became a merchant and left for Batavia. On 17 September 1894 he returned from Batavia to Rotterdam. On Wednesday 24 June 1896, in Rotterdam, he married Debora de Reeder, the daughter of Jacob Levie de Reeder and Elizabeth Vaet. Benjamin de Groot and his wife had three daughters and a son, namely Ida, Elizabeth, Rosaliena and Meijer Jacob. They have survived the war.

The last known address of Benjamin de Groot and his wife Debora Reeder was Daal en Bergselaan 86 in Den Haag. It was from there that they were deported to Camp Westerbork where they arrived 3 Decembert 1942. Five days later, 8 December, both were deported to Auschwitz and upon arrival there 11 December 1942, they were immediately killed.
