Hartog Mossel was unemployed in the period immediately before his deportation. When he received a call-up to go to Eastern Europe for the ‘provision of additional work’ he said goodbye to his family. He said he felt happy that he could do something. His relatives gave him a thick sweater so that he would be protected against the Polish winters.
