About Simon Verduin and his family

 Simon Verduin, a son of Isaac Abraham Verduin and Simona Worms, married 28 February 1923 in Amsterdam Annaatje Frank, a daughter of Benjamin Frank and Mietje Engelsman. The couple had two children, namely Simona who was born in Amsterdam on 15 November 1923 and Mary, born in Deurne (district Antwerp) on 13 November 1927.

Before Simon, Annaatje and Simona Verduin arrived in Belgium in 1927, the lived in Amsterdam at Groenburgwal 29. The moved to the “East Indies” quarter in the eastern part of Amsterdam where they have lived at Sumatrastraat 205, Molukkenstraat 164 and Bataviastraat 10.

Simon Verduin, a diamondworker by trade, stayed after arriving in Belgium at first at Hofstadestraat in Berchem and later at Van Steenlantstraat 50 in Deurne. There his daughter Mary was born in 1937. In 1941 the family returned to Amsterdam; for a few weeks tot Plantage Kerklaan 19 I and per 24 March 1941 their last known address became Nieuwe Amstelstraat 8 1st stock, from where they eventually were sent to Westerbork.

On 2 August 1942 the family was registered at the Jewish Council. One week later, on 6 August 1942, his daughter Simona was taken out of their house and arrested and already the next day, on 7 August put on transport to Auschwitz. There she lost her life on 30 September 1942.

Since 30 November 1942, Simon Verduin worked as cleaner at Laing Nekstraat 55 in Amsterdam as he was not allowed work as diamondworker.  On 18 March 1943, Simon Verduin, his wife Annaatje Frank and little daughter Mary were registered in Camp Westerbork where they had to stay in barack 63. On 23 March they were all deported to Sobibor, were they were killed immediately upon arrival on 26 march 1943.
