Clara Chambre, was born on 19 July 1884 in Ettinghausen nr Lich in Hesse. (Source: Hessisches Hauptstaatsarchiv; Wiesbaden, Deutschland; Bestand: 905; Laufende Nummer: 269) She was one of five children (2 sons/3 daughters) of Moses and Bertha (née Katten) Chambre. She lived in the household of her older brother, Max Chambre, until 1935 when she moved to Siegen. (Source: Entry 409 Hanno Müller, Juden in Lich : Birklar, Langsdorf, Muschenheim und Ettingshausen, (2010), vol. 1) In 1938, she moved to Frankfurt a/Main where she registered the addition of "Sara" to her given names on 18 December 1939. (Source: Müller). On 3 July 1939, Clara moved to the Netherlands and lived at Rubensstraat 34 boven in Amsterdam. (Source: Joods Monument). Living in Amsterdam at that time was Clara's niece, Lina Meyer, née Chambre. Lina was the daughter of Clara's eldest sister, Emilie. Lina had moved to Amsterdam with her husband, Emil Meyer, and her daughter, Ruth Meyer, b. 1926, and two step-children, Hans and Ingeborg Meyer. The Meyers lived at the same address as Clara.
