Lucie Elisabeth Ascher

Extracts from the Ambiguity of Virtue which mentions Lucie E Ascher

Door: Esther Fawke

Lucie is described by Gertrude (Van Tijn) as "a perfect saint of a woman".  Lucie was spared being sent for transportation from Westerbork in November 1942 by Gertrude.  Lucie kept house for Gertrude for a period of 6 months or so in their last known residence in Amsterdam.  Their apartment was raided by two SS Soldiers and Lucie was along with 3005 others transported from Westerbork to Sobibor on the 1 June 1943.

According to 'The Ambiguity of Virtue' a diary found at their old residence many years later, may well have been that of Lucie Ascher.

Lucie was a nominal employee of the Jewish Council.
