Alice COHN was born in Greifswald, Germany on 20 December 1887 to Hermann COHN and Betty FREUND. Hermann was a Kaufmann in Greifswald and later in Berlin. He died in Berlin in 1900 at the age of 43. Her mother Betty COHN geb. FREUND was born in Breslau, Germany. She died in Berlin in 1903 at the age of 38. From the age of 16, Alice was orphaned. Alice lived in Berlin until she emigrated to the Netherlands. Alice's grandfather Fedor FREUND (1831-1890) was the brother of Dr. Siegfried FREUND (1829-1915), long-time rabbi of Görlitz, Germany.
