Esther van Dam married in the Stephen Green Synagogue in Londen in 1935. The couple had a son Barnett, who was born in Rotterdam. The family were British citizens and had British pasports. As a result of the increasing porpability of war, they considered moving back to England in 1938. The English consulate in the Netherlands assured them, that in case of war they would be evacuated.
