On Saturday, 11 April 1942, at 7.00 PM, ten Jewish residents of Leeuwarden were arrested in retaliation for removing the sign 'No Jews allowed' from a public bench in the Vossepark. They were sent to the camp at Amersfoort. Emil Johan van der Heijden was among them. He lived on the Emmakade Zuidzijde in Leeuwarden.
