Nardus Schrijver studied medicine in Amsterdam, where he sat for his medical finals on 17 March 1894. He served as an Inspector of the Land Forces' Medical Service in the rank of Major-General.In the early thirties, he lived as a doctor on leave at 55 Jacob Mosselstraat in The Hague.
