Daniel van IJssel is de zoon van Isaac van IJssel en Anna Frank. Isaac van IJssel is geboren op 10 februari 1881 in Noordwijk. In Den Haag, waar hij later woonde, ontmoette Isaac Anna Frank. Zij is geboren op 12 september 1886 in Wouw bij Bergen op Zoom. In 1913 trouwden ze en op 8 december 1913 verhuisde het paar naar Delft.
