Emanuël Coerant, born 27 December 1899 in Amsterdam, was the younger brother of Louis Coerant and son of Jacob Coerant and Sientje Philips. His father passed away already in 1902, when he was not yet three years old. His mother Sientje remarried in 1910 Hartog de Beer from Harlingen, who was born there in 1865, but passed away in Amsterdam in 1918.
