Hartog 'Harry' Wolkenfeld attended a school for tailors. In his room lay the patterns he had made at school. Hartog liked reading comics.
One day in summer, Hartog failed to come home from school. He had been arrested on the way home. Since it was summer, all he had on that day was a pair of trousers and a thin shirt.

Sara Knoop and Jozef Wolkenfeld had married young, and lived for a while with Sara’s parents in Boerhaavestraat. A son, Hartog, was born to the couple in 1926. Jozef and his wife sold shoe soles and heels at the Waterlooplein market in Amsterdam.
