Catharina was een dochter van Isaak Alvares Vega en van Fransje Dormits. Zij had vier zussen, Rosaline, Henriëtte, Sientje en Grietje en een broer Alfred. Catharina trouwde met Philip Katoen, winkelier, afkomstig uit Amsterdam. Catharina, geboren in Nijmegen verhuisde na dit huwelijk naar Amsterdam, waar op 12-08-1915 hun dochter Jansje Katoen werd geboren.
