Pietje Bloemendal-Mendels

Pietje Mendels lived in July 1943 in hiding in Gorinchem, together with her daughter Marianne in the house of her daughter Betje who was married to a non-Jewish man. They were arrested there after betrayal and deported to Auschwitz via Westerbork.

Pietje Bloemendal-Mendels was married to Benjamin Bloemendal, who died in 1932. The couple had eight children: Hartog (who died at a young age), Saartje, Mozes, Betje, Hartog, Marianne, Louis and Francina.

Pietje Bloemendal-Mendels wordt op 6 maart 1885 geboren in Lemsterland. Zij is de oudste dochter van Salomon Mendels (1859, Lemmer) en Annechien Frank (1859, Meppel). Na haar geboorte verhuist het gezin op 26 mei 1885 naar Amsterdam. Pietje heeft een jongere zuster Marianna (zie Marianna Roosnek-Mendels) die de oorlog niet overleeft.
